He asked me, “Why is it so hard for you to understand what I believe? If you could only think like me, I wouldn’t have to explain myself.”
We all see the world differently.
Walking in someone else’s shoes is difficult. Until you put them on and walk around, you’ll never truly understand. But that’s pretty much impossible. Most of us already have an answer, when others pass their opinion, before they are finished speaking. Unless we are willing to listen to understand and then speak to be understood, there’s only one solution. Practice empathy.
Empathy is worth the effort.
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.
Winston Churchill
Great post Mark-and so timely.
There is a reason we were given two ears and one mouth. If we listened twice as much as we spoke, it would be amazing what others would teach us.
