Mark Gillies is the Senior Manager, Product and Technology Communications at Volkswagen of America who are the title sponsor at the Inaugural Chattanooga Motorcar Festival taking place October 11 – 12 at the Westin Hotel and Chattanooga’s West Village. He is a lifelong automotive enthusiast whose career as a journalist included editing Supercar Classics and CAR magazines in the UK before arriving in the States in 1995. He became Executive Editor of Automobile and Car and Driver magazines. Eight years ago he moved into PR at Volkswagen and he is currently head of product communications for the North American region. Mark has owned a number of interesting vehicles and has raced a number of great old cars for collectors over the years. He and his son own and drive a 1992 Golf GTI race car.

  2. Mark is, and doubtless always will be, a “can-do”, get-it-done guy, who always finds a way through whatever morass blocks his way. The distinction is that he does this without being a bully, blowhard, or brown-noser. I have worked with him – on and off – ever since he arrived in the USA to work at Automobile and Car & Driver. Every interaction I’ve had with the guy has always been professional and while the outcome may not have been what I had hoped, it WAS ALWAYS the best he could deliver, offer or create. Gillies is the kind of automotive professional that never demands respect, but commands it. Probably because he loves this car stuff through and through and it shows. Stick around Mark. . . .
