Back in 1993-94 David Smith decided he wanted to purchase and drive a vintage race car, but not just any vintage race car. He wanted the 1994 Ferrari 412 T1B, a car driven by Gerhard Berger and Jean Alesi. The car was designed and built by John Barnard in England and the Ferrari F1 Team. Powered by a 3.5 liter, V12 the engine produced 800 plus HP, revs to 18,500 RPM and with no driver’s aids, well, this thing is a beast. David was the first in the USA to purchase a modern, ex-Ferrari F1 car from the factory and his actions drove Ferrari to consider what became their Ferrari F1 Clienti program where today you can purchase an ex-Ferrari F1 car and drive it on the track. David’s experience purchasing and driving the car is a unique and exciting story about persistence, patience, tenacity, and endurance so let’s buckle up and go!
