Rob Keil is an advertising art director, filmmaker and author who was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Part of how he found his way to his chosen profession was when he was about 10 years old, flipping through old issues of National Geographic Magazine and discovering car advertisements. In particular, the Pontiac Wide Track ad campaign of the 1960s. His first class on his first day of college was called “Advertising Layout and Book Design.” It all clicked, and within Rob knew what he wanted to do for a living. And that’s exactly what he’s been doing ever since. Rob has had a successful career as an advertising art director, and in his spare time has written and designed two books. The latest is a book about Art Fitzpatrick and Van Kaufman, the same men who illustrated hundreds of those Pontiac ads that inspired him as a kid.

Great Interview Mark! Back when Art Fitzpatrick and Van Kaufman were doing their work I bet they never imagined being so inspirational to others like Rob as they ended up being? Great he honored their work in his book the way he did. One thing I disagree with Rob is that He IS a Car-Guy for sure! I know one when I see one !! (-:
I love the story about AF/VK, love their Pontiac illustrations and now looking forward to some of their techniques, thanks to Rob.
I’m so happy Rob followed through with his dream and Curiosity of his childhood hero(s) that we all can benefit.
Thank you Mark Greene & Rob Keil
