Frank Loughridge has been a hot rod and custom car enthusiast since he was a small boy. His interest was cemented when his father took him to a Darryl Starbird Rod and Custom show in the 1980s. Frank grew up playing in his neighbor’s gassers and street rods, as well as in his fathers ’59 Chevy Impala. When the traditional hot rod movement gained momentum in the early 1990s Frank was there to live the experience. He participated in shows and events and eventually fell in love with the Dry lakes era of hot rodding. Upon Meeting his friend Chris, the two began to revive the South Gate Gaters, a club in which Chris’ father and cousin had been involved in during the 1940s. Chris still has the “Pyle Special” which was one of the original hot rods of the club. Today, Frank and the Gaters SCTA are dedicated to building and growing the hot rod spirit by producing period hot rods and hosting events, including the “Bias Ply Drags” held December 9 at the newly minted Street Legal Dragway in Perris, California.
