How to Become a Free Thinker

Today on Cars Yeah my guest is Bob Gurr, the first Imagineer that Walt Disney hired to design and create the rides at Disneyland. During our conversation I asked Bob about a challenge he’s faced in his many careers and he gave me a very unique answer.

“I don’t look at anything as a challenge.”

Bob went on to share. If a person is a highly educated person who has attended University, he or she has inadvertently had their mind closed. It is because they have been taught to follow a curriculum that has been generated by a government who wants them to conform. Yes, one might have an education, but when someone asks them to do something they have never done, they become frightened.

You must train yourself to say “Yes”.

You have to force yourself to not be frightened to try something you’ve never been taught how to do. By opening your mind you’ll discover you do know a few things about what you’ve been asked to do after all.

The key to being a Free Thinker is to live a life with curiosity.

Stop defining everything by what you’ve been taught. Don’t look at things through your own filters. Don’t think “That reminds me of…” and instead clear your mind and simply look at something for what it is. Most importantly, learn to say “Yes”!
