Brace Yourself

Coming in Low

I’ve heard that if you’re in an automobile accident, you are less likely to be inured if you don’t brace for the impact. Good luck with that. Hitting a tree, or a wall, or the back of a stopped semi while going fast is going to hurt whether your muscles are tensed up or not.

Worse is when we prepare for an impact when it’s not necessary.

Far too often in life we expect the worst. And as a result we prepare for impact in our mind when there may not be anything at all to prepare for. Fear of failure is often a place we go as a defense mechanism. It creates tension, anxiety, and stifles creativity, communication, and enthusiasm. That’s why working for a boss who’s a bully is so damaging to a company and of course the employees.

There is no need to experience failure before it happens.

Preparing for failure as a form of preparation is rarely a good state of mind. It greatly decreases your chances for success. So relax and brace for success. It feels much better and increases your ability to connect with others and live a healthy, happy life. And if you know you’re about to hit something, rapidly enact evasive maneuvers.

When was the last time you braced for something that never happened?
