It was the 1955 Mille Miglia. Stirling Moss, along side his navigator Denis Jenkinson, drove the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR 1,000 miles in 10 hours, seven minutes, and 48 seconds. Their average speed was 97.96 miles per hour. That is a 60 year-old record that still stands today. That’s a lot of numbers.
As I stood in front of that car I wondered what my number would be.
How do you build a legacy? What do you need to do? Will you know it when you’re done? Does what you care about have a number?
Finding your number starts with knowing what you care about.
What we all need most in our lives is something we define as worth our time. Something we care about. There are a number of things that can push us off course. Our challenge to define our number is to not allow those elements to redefine what we care about. It’s a game of numbers.
The most important thing is caring.
Do you know your number?
