Our goal as individuals should be to break free of unreasonable selfishness. Acting in ones own self interest is natural, but when selfishness consumes us, we stop listening to one another. When we stop listening, we stop learning. Acting out of selfishness engages the clutch and stops everything from rolling forward.
Communication is a two-way street.
I once worked with a person who claimed to be able to talk and listen at the same time. The key words here are “claimed to.” Give it a try. It’s impossible, and it ends up being extremely selfish. Like driving with your foot on the brake, you’ll never get anywhere. Or at best, you’ll wear things out.
Proper communication is the key to our success.
When you remove gratuitous selfishness you open yourself up to learning. You become a better communicator. Listen first, then speak to be understood.
The lack of proper communication leads us to failures.
Break away from gratuitous selfishness and listen first, or risk burning up your brakes.
