Early in his career he had difficulties with a man who was his friend and someone he was sharing his manufacturing space with forcing him to move his company. Then there is a bank story about broken promises for a business loan.

Early in his career he met drivers including Alan Prost, Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, and Nelson Piquet and shared with them his focus on safety. They all started wearing his suits and that provided his brand with great exposure as the safety company and not a marketing company.
