My grandparents were married for 56 years the day I was married. That was 1984. When they passed, within five months of each other, they had been married for 69 years. On my wedding day, I asked my grandfather what the key to a successful marriage was. A quick reply was his usual wit.
Do everything she tells you to do.
After my grandmother jabbed him in the ribs and said “Don’t fib to the boy Bill.” He shared his secret that became my mantra and the key to success in marriage, in friendships, and in life.
Be willing to give more than you expect to get back.
This secret to success has its place in business as well. Whatever your endeavor, be prepared to give more than you expect back. Hand over the keys with a smile, with sincerity, and with genuine intention.
Make this giving season your year round practice.
That is excellent advice that should guide us all throughout the entire year. It’s difficult these days to feel too optimistic about the world and to ‘love they neighbour’ in an expanded, international sense. Therefore, we need to try harder with those close to us, and those we sense could become so.
Merry Christmas to you!
Thank you Robert. Merry Christmas to you too!
Wise words! I agree 100% The funny thing is that when you don’t expect much in return you always get more than you expected. 🙂 🙂 🙂
So true Keith. Thank you!
Good advice…do the best at what you love to do best and the rest will follow. All good wishes for a great Christmas and holiday season.
Thank you Ed. Merry Christmas to you as well.
