John Kolesa is the Founder of American Endurance Racing, known as AER. The idea was born out of a desire for an inclusive endurance racing series.  John’s goal is to provide a fun, safe, racing experience for drivers to participate in endurance racing using any production-based racecar. The races are multi-class with cars competing against other in-class cars and wins are based on the total number of laps completed. His goal is to allow for a huge amount of track time on the best tracks with minimum prep rules at a reasonable cost. It all started in 2014 when John, who was an amateur racer, decided there needed to be an endurance option for people like he and his racing buddies.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE

The customer is always right.

CAREER & LIFE CHALLENGES

The biggest challenge I faced during the past couple of years was getting AER (American Endurance Racing) off the ground, including learning things about running a business like how to deal with racetracks, insurance, launching a website, and more. Now it has a life of its own with its own community. It’s good to see it doing well now.

FIRST SPECIAL VEHICLE

The first special car I had was a hand me down from my brother, which was a 1982 Toyota Supra.

BEST AUTOMOTIVE ADVICE

You’ll learn more from driving a slow car fast than by driving a fast car slow.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Wikipedia, but vet what you’re reading.

RECOMMENDED BOOK

Business Adventures by John Brooks, which Bill Gates also said was one of his favorite books.

PARTING WORDS OF ADVICE

Keep learning. Keep your mind open, and keep at it. Try to keep improving to do things better.

  1. Could not agree more with your statement about driving a slow car. If you can drive a slow car fast, you can drive pretty much anything fast. Still working on it!!! AER is a fantastic format for learning performance driving and race-craft. I feel privileged to be a part of such a great community. Thank you John.
