CAREER & LIFE CHALLENGES

My biggest challenge came out of 9/11/2001. My company built trade show exhibits. Travel came to a halt, and it took quite a while before the trade show business came back to life.

When you own a company that is as old as mine is, you find yourself doing things certain ways because that was the way they’d always been done. Some of the basic processes were flawed. I was introduced to a man who became my business consultant, and he really helped me turn the business around. Don’t be afraid to seek help when you need it.

FIRST SPECIAL VEHICLE

My father had a rule that his kids were not allowed to buy a car until the age of 18, and he would pay 50% of the price of the car. The more money we saved, the better car we could afford. I finally was able to make a deal on a 1970 grabber blue Mach 1 Mustang with a shaker hood.

BEST AUTOMOTIVE ADVICE

My dad used to tell me,”Don’t abuse a transmission.” It’s cheaper to buy brake pads than to replace a gearbox.

PARTING WORDS OF ADVICE

One of my guiding principles my dad gave me is, “The man you see in the mirror  every morning is the man you must account to for the rest of your life. So today, and every day, act accordingly.”
