INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE
If you set your mind to something, you can accomplish anything.
CAREER & LIFE CHALLENGES
I worked at Edmunds.com for 13 years, and I had an idea for an automotive shopping site that I thought seemed logical, at the time. I put a lot of my heart and soul, and a lot of my personal wealth into it, along with receiving advice from key people in the industry. It was making some progress, but one of the 3 of us working on it was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away a 7 weeks later. This was also during the depression. It came to an abrupt ending. Within weeks of this happening, I realized that most CEOs realize the value of someone with an entrepreneurial spirit. Don’t assume a failure is just a failure. It can be a great learning experience and can add to your pedigree. I went on to get several good employment offers, and I went with Kelley Blue Book. I have never regretted it!
FIRST SPECIAL VEHICLE
My first really special car was a 1970 Plymouth GTX. I scraped together money, and established some credit with a credit union, and drove away from that guy’s place on I-25 North of Denver, feeling like I was driving my dream car. It was incredible!
BEST AUTOMOTIVE ADVICE
Know what you want before you ever start shopping.
There are many people who want to work in the car industry, and there seems not to be as many jobs available as there are people interested in them. Educate yourself! Put the time and energy into learning historical facts, or how to write or photograph well, and sharpen your skills. Also, learn how the car industry fits into the digital age, and there’s a very good chance you can get a job in the car industry.
