INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE
Safety, 3rd! In terms of taking chances in life, you may sometimes need to throw caution to the wind and pursue your passions.
CAREER & LIFE CHALLENGES
I had only 18 hours notice when I learned I was going to be a part of a big downsizing sweep at Microsoft. I wasn’t prepared to do a pivot on my career path at that time. I had heard that people needed to pivot when things like this happen but when it came to me, I wasn’t sure what to do next. I eventually turned to my love of photography but I wasn’t sure about which niche in photography I would pursue. I researched the area in which I lived and found nearly two hundred photographers in my area. After researching them further, I noticed that the majority of them were only doing photography part-time and were pretty much cookie-cutter photographers. I wanted to create my own model where I could provide the service and the picture would be only the last 10%. My images are really clean. There are no clouds, birds, or photos of the guy’s car parked next to yours at a car show. I collaborate with my clients before proceeding with photographing and they are completely a part of the process throughout. When I photograph cars in the studio, we reposition it over and over, adjust the lighting, and it’s really a specialized studio experience for my clients and the results are unique. I created my own pathway in pursuing my passion for photography and have created a successful business where I can spend more time with my family.
FIRST SPECIAL VEHICLE
I purchased a plain-Jain, Mustang 302 automatic car and it was a total rust bucket. I sandblasted the bottom of the car until it was completely clean and I painted it. My mom cursed me for years because every time there was a windstorm, white, silica dust blew everywhere from out of the bushes. I was proud of the Mustang because it was the first car I had owned that wasn’t a hand-me-down. I still have the car but it’s just sitting in my shop. I don’t touch it.
BEST AUTOMOTIVE ADVICE
Based on the overland trips I’ve taken in my line of work, I’ve learned that it’s better to fix things and do preventive maintenance in your garage than to fix them in the mosquito-infested hills of Canada!
