It has been said that you should never try to meet your heroes,
lest they be found to have feet of clay.
I’ve had the privilege of interviewing many Inspiring Automotive Enthusiasts™ that I look up to and so far, none have let me down. Today’s guest on Cars Yeah is legendary Don Prudhomme. I saw him race when I was a kid and built many a model of ‘The Snake’s’ dragsters when I was a kid and I still have my Snake and Mongoose Hot Wheels cars to this day. He and past guest Elana Scherr have co-authored his biography and in it Don shares his triumphs and many challenges.
Another racer hero of mine was Al Unser Jr.
Tomorrow’s guest on Cars Yeah will be Jade Gurss who has written a book about Little Al titled, Al Unser Jr. / A Checkered Past. Jade spent hours talking with Al about his past including the good, the bad, and the very ugly. It’s a story of triumph and tragedy as told by Al himself. A classic example of a hero who fell from grace and is working on improving. It is well worth a read and deserves a place on your library shelf.
I am happy to report Al’s doing better today, is recently married, and he is improving his life.
Being human is given. but keeping our humanity is a choice.
