Long ago I was given the book The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People written by Stephen Covey. One of my favorite Habits is number 5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood. Never did I imagine my days would be spent doing just that producing and hosting the Cars Yeah podcast. All I do every day is…
Listen to understand and then speak to be understood.
A true benefit to listening is learning. You learn nothing when you’re talking, except that perhaps the recipient of your babble isn’t really interested in what you have to say. Times they have changed in the year 2020 and very little for the better.
Today’s world is filled with new kinds of stress and depression.
Many people I’ve talked to in the last five months are under a lot of stress and some are depressed. So I often ask them how they are dealing with the pandemic, isolation, change in work conditions, civil unrest, and all that this year has piled upon us. As usual, my Inspiring Automotive Enthusiasts™ have delivered with some helpful ideas.
Are you feeling any stress? Here are some ideas to help you cope.
• Giving is so good that it is selfish. It seems too perfect to be beneficial but it is. So practice giving and do it often.
• Give yourself the gift of a good cardio workout daily, at least 30 minutes.
• Try meditation and mindful breathing, even in short spurts.
• Make a list of things you’re grateful for, every day, no matter how simple or mundane.
• Have a small but close group of friends to call upon and call upon them often with a simple “How are you?”
As I’ve said before, your garage, and your vehicle, can be a wonderful stress reducer. Go for a drive and do it with the windows down, with your favorite tunes blasting. Be well.
I snapped the image above at the Pebble Beach Concours in 2014. I would have been in Carmel today enjoying the first of many events, the Concours on the Avenue, with hundreds of my past Cars Yeah guests. Given this would have been my 31st Car Week, maybe this break has helped me realize not to take this annual trip for granted ever again. No doubt, next year will be epic. Cheers to all my friends who I will miss greatly.
