Feel like your life is a constant race? Customers demand things now. We multi-task on computers, telephones, and tablets, all while speeding through the day. Today’s fast pace quite often leads to mistakes, sometimes with catastrophic results.
Sometimes it’s better to slow down before going fast.
On the racetrack, one of the things my driving coach told me was to “Go slow first” before you build momentum. During that time you’ll learn techniques that will help you when things speed up. During this slow time you’ll learn to focus, to remove distractions, and to sharpen your mental skills.
The process helps you: Plan, prepare, learn, see more clearly, and reflect.
Augustus, the founder of the Roman empire would say, “Festina Lente.” “Make haste, slowly.” This was his reminder to attack his goals with both a proper sense of urgency and diligence. So the next time you start a project think about going slower at first. Think back to painful lessons learned when you dropped the clutch and spun your wheels. Think like a winning race car driver and go slow fast.
Great reminder! Thanks.
