Dan McCrary is an automotive artist who lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. He started drawing when he was a child, and all his efforts, of course, involved cars. A high school rock band led to a career in the music business but in 1980 Dan decided to focus on being a full-time automotive artist. His favorite medium is watercolor. His work has been shown at numerous concours events and in a variety of automotive publications. He’s earned awards for his work, and his art hangs on the walls of prominent enthusiasts and corporate collections.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro! – Hunter S. Thompson
CAREER & LIFE CHALLENGES
Spending hours setting up displays at car shows, and sometimes making zero sales, I’ve realized I had to persevere, and not quit. I was at a low point, and there was an upcoming show that was going to be an expensive trip. I drove for two or three days, set up in Las Vegas, and there weren’t as many cars as we had been led to believe. The free rooms didn’t materialize, and I sold about $150.00 worth of prints. I learned to bounce back from the experience and keep going. I’ve since been able to look back on the experience and laugh, but the takeaway lesson is that it could have been much worse. I love what I do, and I keep optimistic about working shows and being successful.
FIRST SPECIAL VEHICLE
My very first special car was a 1955 Chevy 2-door, and it had bucket seats and a rolled and pleated interior.
