Linda Weldon Feldhorn is an automotive photographer who just launched her latest book Road Racing – Drivers of the 60’s and 70’s. It takes you on a journey with an incredible cast of talented drivers in American road racing via a 100 page, hardcover book. Back in those days, Linda was unique, being a female sports photographer. Her images brought a special humanity to a dangerous, male-dominated sport. A trip to Riverside International Raceway and a meeting with Sir Sterling Moss provided her access to the inner-world of racing, along with the people involved and that turned into many years of capturing racing images. Linda also worked in the entertainment industry as a set photographer for films, TV commercials, and television sports shows. She’s been a casting director, stylist, script supervisor, and even a stunt double. She’s a member of the Checkered Flag 200 Club, participates in rally events, and collects vintage cars alongside her husband, Bill Feldhorn.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE

Follow your greatest interest in life and see where it takes you.

CAREER & LIFE CHALLENGES

My passion was photography, and my goal was to become a feature film cinematographer. It was almost impossible, as a woman, to get into the IA Union or to become a cinematographer on a feature film. I tried and tried to get accepted, worked on film sets, did commercials, etc, but it just never happened. I went on to shoot fashion photography, headshots and even opened a studio in Santa Monica before I started doing photography at tracks. Thankfully, the industry of cinematography has opened opportunities to women.

FIRST SPECIAL VEHICLE

My first car was a VW Bug. My second car was a 1965 Mustang, and it was my most favorite car. It was just magnificent!

BEST AUTOMOTIVE ADVICE

Buy what you love, but buy something that will have good resale value. Cars are meant to be driven, not to be garage art.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Sammy’s Camera in Hollywood, Ca, was a great resource for me with my photography needs.

RECOMMENDED BOOK

The Art Of Racing In The Rain, by Garth Stein

  1. Hi Linda, my name is Jeff Karlin, woke up this morning with Bills name on my mind.. My Dad was Bob Karlin of Santa Monica Ford.. I’m not sure that you’re the right person or even the right Feldhorn, but I know that Bill Feldhorn was a very good friend of my dad’s and I remember him talking about going on fishing trips with Bill and that bill had a Hatteras boat.. If you could be so kind as to let me know if I’m on the right track.. I don’t want anything. I just wanted to touch bases I guess maybe with somebody who was a friend of my dads who I love dearly.. my wife and I now live in Portland Oregon and have for the past 50 years actually..Thannks so much, reading your bio leads me to believe that I could possibly be on the right track, especially being that you photograph cars..

Feel free to text or call me at 503-544-3500

    Sincerely, Jeff Karlin
