Steve Lang is the Co-Developer of the Long-Term Quality Index. It is a study covering over 1.8 million used vehicles that have been professionally inspected by ASE Certified Mechanics. His vast experience with the used car market and having liquidated over 10,000 used vehicles for an automotive finance company has given Steve an insiders view of the reality of the used car market. In January of 2013, he and Nick Lariviere developed the Long-Term Quality Index to create the real story about used vehicles. Steve is also a long time automotive auctioneer, car dealer, and feature writer who has been fortunate enough to share his unique world of auctioning and purchasing experiences with millions of readers.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE
We who cut mere stones must always be envisioning cathedrals.
CAREER & LIFE CHALLENGES
The only time I was ever fired from an auction was when I got into a debate with the largest seller of vehicles at that sale. It wasn’t intended to be a debate. The flag for the state of Georgia contained a Confederate symbol, and it had been a big issue. A tow truck driver there was using colorful metaphors and racial expletives. One of my friends said, “If I were black, I would be offended by that particular flag.” I agreed with him, and it went on and on and on. We eventually had an audience including the largest car seller at the auction. He was a fellow who wore the Confederate flag like it was his own coat, seemingly more important to him than even the American flag. We went on to go 15 rounds and change and I ended up getting voluntarily reassigned for an eternal period of time. Sometimes you can say the right things for the right reasons, and still say it the wrong way. I learned that it was not the right time to be expressing my opinions.
FIRST SPECIAL VEHICLE
The only new car I ever bought was a 1994 Toyota Camry named Scarlet. I loved maintaining that car. That vehicle is still on the road after 350,000 miles.
