Randy Ema is a restoration expert and one of the world’s leading experts on the Duesenberg marque. He will be a guest speaker at this year’s Ironstone Concours d’Elegance talking about these magnificent classic cars. Born in 1948, in Tustin California, Randy got involved auto restoration at a very young age and bought his first Auburn in 1965. While he was graduating from high school he opened his shop in 1976 and has restored dozens of antique and classic automobiles for the world’s serious collectors.

While at Auburn several years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Schneck from Wisconsin who owned and drove one off the 3 Brunn bodied convertible sedans called Rivera Phaetons.He had one of the 2 SJ versions with supercharger and he had the idea of reproducing the compplex cylinder head of the Model “J” engine and said a sacrificial head would be needed.I told him about Harry VanIderstines engine which was J551 and the head was a major source of trouble and he got from another engine,probably from J155 and installed it and no more problems..Mr.VanIderstine was nearby with his phaeton and I told Mr.Schneck about that head these two men made it possible for the reproduction heads.Both of these men are now deceased and I want owners of these new heads how these two men got together.Jay Leno said he bought a number of these heads to be finished and ready to use, SJ 551 was originally in a stylized sedan (Derham?) once belonging to Melvin Clemans and it still exists with another engine.It was a good driving car.I can be reached at my Email address or at 1-304-429 2454 in Huntington West Virginia
