David Twohig is a consultant who works on a variety of topics for his clients, he speaks at private and public events, and writes about the car industry for The-Intercooler in the UK. He published his first book, in early 2022, titled Inside the Machine – An Engineer’s Tale of the Modern Automotive Industry. David is a veteran automotive engineering executive, with three decades of international experience in automotive design and development. He headed the future automotive team at Waymo and was Chief Technology Officer and Chief Vehicle Engineer at BYTON. Before this he was Chief Engineer at Alpine and Head of Vehicle Engineering at Renault Sport. And prior he led the engineering team responsible for the Renault ZOE, one of Europe’s best selling BEVs. David also worked at Nissan in the UK and in Japan.

INSPIRATION

David’s father was his inspiration. He had gasoline in his veins and worked on the production line in Ford.

CHALLENGES

The challenge that kicked David’s ass but taught him a big lesson was while working for BYTON, a new start up in 2017, an EV startup. The company was trying to build a new EV SUV however the challenges were too big to overcome.
