Betty Lou Parrish is a Tennessee High School student who is passionate about vehicle restoration and is paving the way for young women in the restoration industry. She is part of the RPM Foundation’s network and has worked with mentor Kayleigh Andrews from LaVine Restorations, where she has been offered a summer internship and full-time employment upon graduation by Travis LeVine. Betty lives with her parents and grandfather whom she works with on vintage cars, old tractors, and Airstream trailers. They attend car shows together and built a large shed where they are restoring a 1955 Packard Patrician, a 1934 Dodge Sedan, and a 1929 Marmon Roosevelt. She’s learning metal fabrication, painting, welding, mechanics, and more. Betty has teamed with the RPM Foundation and will be one of the navigators for X-Cup on The Great Race. She’s fresh off a Spring Break trip with her grandfather where they visited restoration shops and museums. She and her grandfather have more trips planned this summer.

INSPIRATION

Betty’s Papaw has been a great mentor and inspiration along with her best friend and family.

CHALLENGES

Working to not let people get into her head has been a struggle. Some people said she shouldn’t get into a ‘man’s profession.’  She learned to tune them out and worked hard to prove to herself that she can work in automotive restoration.

WORDS OF INSPIRATION

Don’t let people knock you down due to your gender or where you come from. You are who you are and you can do so much more than you think you can.

When you’re welding protect your long hair, especially if it’s dried out, because it will catch on fire!

  1. I am so proud of my Granddaughter Betty.

thank you for having her on your show.

  2. Glad to see more of the Parrish clan into the vintage car field. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told that “you can’t do that’. Restoration and racing…..I’m still here with my son and grandchildren..
Keep the Parrish name alive !
