Ronald Ahrens is a freelance writer who contributes to Hour Detroit, DBusiness, Detroit’s Premier Business Journal, and Palm Springs Life. A centerpiece of his career is having written for the late and much-lamented Automobile magazine, led by the late David E. Davis, over a 33-year period. He lives in a “desert hideaway” near Palm Springs, California, and is involved as a volunteer in both the Palm Springs International Film Festival and Modernism Week, the annual festival celebrating Palm Springs design and architecture. The June issue of Palm Springs Life will feature Ronald’s words covering IndyCar, Hour Detroit, and others. DBusiness features his regular historical features about Charles Kettering’s contributions to the auto industry.

INSPIRATION
The mentorship Ronald received from Automobile magazine’s west coast editor Michael Jordan sticks with him to this day.
CHALLENGE
When recruited to work at Automobile magazine, Ronald was very young. He was fired, a humiliating experience, however, he continued to provide auction results for the publication. That expanded to include feature assignments and grew Ronald’s career.

His family’s 1959 Volvo PV544, a vehicle his parents bought when Ronald was just 4 years old.

I enjoyed the interview with Ronald. He is my older brother and I have watched him walk this journalism journey but learned a thing or two about him iduring this time. It was a very fun interview. I do remember the fire in the Volvo’s engine!
