Evan Ide is an automotive historian, author and restorer specializing in automobiles built prior to WWII. He is Vice President, Senior Specialist with Bonhams Cars auction house and is the founder and principal of Historic Vehicle Services restoration shop. For nearly 20 years Evan has been intimately involved with early automobiles and brings an unusual perspective of being both a historian and a professional restorer. As a historian Evan has lectured frequently, including three different presentations at the Royal Automobile Club London, lectures at the Blackhawk Museum, CA, Simeone Foundation PA, University of New Hampshire, Heritage Museum and Gardens, MA, and the Audrain Automobile Museum, RI. Additionally Evan is on the Selection Committee for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. He is an avid collector with a largely pre-war collection.

INSPIRATION

Working around cars his entire life has inspired Evan to focus on pre-war era automobiles.

CHALLENGE

Vetting the large number of vehicles requesting to attend the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is an important challenge. 

SPECIAL VEHICLE

A 1909 Locomobile known as “Old 16,” Driver George Robertson and mechanician Glenn Ethridge took this car to victory in the Vanderbilt Cup, America’s first great automobile race. It will be on the lawn at the 2023 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
