Mikael Wallin is the originator of Customikes. He is a highly recognized and respected personality in the Kustom Kulture segment of the car community. He is routinely invited to events as a special guest and presented awards for his incredible restoration and customization work. Mikael grew up in Sweden in a little town east of Gothenburg and was influenced by the American Graffiti love circle of friends cruisin’ “The Avenue.” Mike attended trade schools to hone his skills in taking things apart and putting them back together, and served in both the Army and Air Force in Sweden as an Assistant Repair Group Chief. He came to live in America in 1984 and embraced the car culture here. It’s all about fun, photography, and film for the Kustom Kulture Enthusiasts.

INSPIRATION

Meeting Keith Bell for the first time introduced Mikael to the resto-culture in California.

CHALLENGE

Mike tried to build his shop for a long time and it just didn’t go where he wanted and that’s when he decided to reinvent what Customikes meant to him. It was all about “servicing the community.”

SPECIAL VEHICLE

A Volvo made into a “Minimerc” that Mikael built over 4 years, and won multiple awards with as a 1989 Oakland Grand National Roadster Show participant. This very car led to the start of Customikes.
