Alan O’Neill is the Founder and Owner of SCU Motorsports where their goal is to develop mechanics and engineers, not drivers. His seven-step process addresses the needs of the motorsport sector through bespoke qualifications, a 3D virtual learning environment, embracing inclusion, focusing on race series, specialty tools, race bay cabinets, and race trailers. Alan has been a high-performance driving instructor and coach since 2012 and has driven in numerous race series and rallies. He grew up around motorsports, has a deep passion for engineering, and works every day at SEU Motorsports to fill the much-needed pool of mechanics and engineers in the racing community.

INSPIRATION

Alan’s father was an initial inspiration to me, his philosophy was always “make it happen” and “always give your best”. The inspiration for what he is doing now with SCU Motorsport is all of the students he taught at the college and got involved in the race team, and late nights and weekends they gave up getting the cars ready.

CHALLENGE

What Alan is going through at the moment is one of the biggest challenges he has faced. “I haven’t given up yet so I can’t say I have failed… yet”.

SPECIAL AUTOMOBILE

The Caterham 7, a car that is fantastic and makes him feel alive.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION

Living Dangerously by Sir Ranulph Hines

Any of the Winnie the Pooh books. Alan loves Poo’s philosophy on life and the way he treats his friends.

WORDS OF INSPIRATION

A quote from Alan’s father – “If you can help someone now, do it as there may be a time in the future you need help, and the person you helped might be the one who helps you.”

“If you stop learning you start going backwards.” – Henry Ford

“If I had asked people what they wanted they would have said faster horses. It’s easy to define a problem but not so easy to come up with a better solution.” – Henry Ford
