George Levy is the President of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, the former editor of Autoweek magazine, and an author. He has written multiple books on motorsports, including 2016’s Can-Am 50th Anniversary, a project on which he worked with the late and deeply missed photographer Pete Biro, who is a past Cars Yeah guest. His last book, F1 Mavericks: The Men and Machines that Revolutionized Formula 1 Racing, is a sweeping account of the most innovative and glamorous period in Formula One racing history, 1958 through 1982. Today he’s here to share his book titled Texas Legend: Jim Hall and his Chaparrals, published by EVRO, and the official biography of legendary Jim Hall.

INSPIRATION
One of Jim Hall’s biggest positive influencers was his older brother Dick. There is a big question as to whether or not Jim would have had the career in racing that he did had it not been for his brother, who introduced him to racing.
CHALLENGE
Jim Hall overcame enormous challenges from a very young age, losing his mother to cancer, and his father, stepmom, and sister who died in a plane crash. From a young age, he had to grow up quickly and take over the family business. In his racing career, almost every major innovation Jim created was shut down by the sanctioning bodies in racing.
SPECIAL AUTOMOBILE
The Chaparral High-Wing 2E and the 2F, the fastest endurance car of its time.
