Matt Stone is a freelance journalist, author, broadcaster and former Editor at Motor Trend Classic magazine. He’s been a professional automotive journalist and photographer since 1990. He’s a Chief Class Judge at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, a member of the LeMay America’s Car Museum Steering Committee and past-President of the Motor Press Guild trade association. He’s written several books including: Winning: The Racing Life of Paul Newman, McQueen’s Machines, My First Car, and History’s Greatest Automotive Mysteries, Myths, and Rumors Revealed.

In Matt’s book ‘McQueen’s Motorcycles’ on pages 58 is a photo that Matt doesn’t know the location which he states on page 59 ‘…nor do we know where the shot was taken’
It’s on the backlot of the Bavaria studios, Munich during the filming of The Great Escape in 1962 where McQueen was practising the ‘jump’ for a scene in the film. A photo of the exact bike can be viewed on my homepage –

Hey, I’m hoping to contact Matt Stone…you wrote an article for Motortrend back in 2007 regarding Schedoni’s partnership with Puma to make handmade leather racing shoes amongst other luxury accessories.

I just read the catalog description of the the Thomas Crown Meyers Manx built by Pete Condos and his Con-Ferr company. Con-Ferr wasn’t an east coast company. It was and actually still is located at 300 N. Victory Blvd. Burbank, CA. I interviewed Pete Condos a number of times at his home in Simi Valley, CA for the article about him and the Thomas Crown Manx which was published in the Manx Mania, the Manx Club’s magazine.
