Legendary Bob Varsha was kind to be my guest on Cars Yeah last week. During his inspiring stories Bob said that he was basically a racing guy, a competition guy, and motorsport guy. When he started covering the Barrett Jackson auctions the world of collector cars opened his eyes. He worked with Brock Yates, Alain de Cadenet, Keith Martin, and Mike Joy. He went at over 40 auctions and got bit by the collector car bug.
It was the people, their passion, and stories that he loved.
I had a similar experience when I took my daughter to her first auction. She isn’t as much in to cars, like I am, but the excitement, the people, and the buzz of the auctioneers voice really fired her up. We stayed until the last car crossed the block and we heard those final words.
Sole! Sold! Sold!
Last week were the annual Scottsdale auctions and while they saw record sales and prices it was the people who made the events so much fun. Auctions bring out lots of emotions in people and add fuel to all their senses.
Passion. Competition. Urgency.
If you haven’t attended a big auction, add it to your list. Even if you can’t raise a paddle, they are great fun. You will meet all sorts of interesting and knowledgeable people who are happy and eager to share their knowledge and expertise.
Ladies and gentleman, it’s Ferrari time!
And it’s always fun to see spectacular cars and dream a little. Please share your auction experience.
As in most of your blogs, I learned something. Didn’t know about your daughter and the auction. That was a nice story. I have seen auctions on TV, but being there, I am sure, is a lot more fun. Thanks for your story.
