Jan Hyde is a race historian who runs the Registry of Corvette Race Cars. It’s a project he calls The Corvette Race Car Collection to-the-Max. According to Jan he has been obsessed with Corvettes since he saw the light of day. That begs the question, was he born in a Chevrolet dealership? Perhaps we’ll find out. His heroes were Don Yenko and Dr. Dick Thompson who piloted leading edge Vettes back in the day. Jan could be the only historian who has tracked all Corvette race cars through every era via his Registry of Corvette Race Cars. He still owns and drives a 1960 fuel-injected Corvette. Jan has given presentations at the International Motor Racing Research Center at Watkins Glen, at the Monterey Historic Races, at Corvettes at Carlisle, at the Corvette Fun Fest in Illinois and gatherings of the NCRS and the Solid Axle Corvette Club.

INSPIRATION

Jan first experienced the Corvette at a GM event titled the Motorama where the Corvette was announced, and that set the hook for Jan. A home town racer named Grady Davis was a racer and the team to beat in the 60s.

CHALLENGES

Finding and documenting accurately all the racing Corvettes in his registry and then finding ways to expose this information to the world.
